The publication process

What happens to a manuscript from submission to publication. The steps are the same in every Palmyra journal.

1. Submission. You submit through the journal's submission system and receive an automatic acknowledgement.
2. Editorial check. The editorial office checks scope, completeness, ethical declarations and similarity. Manuscripts that fail the check are returned without review, with the reason.
3. Double-anonymised peer review by at least two independent reviewers. Neither side learns the other's identity.
4. Decision: accept, revise, or decline, sent with the reviewers' reports.
5. Revision. You revise and explain each change in a response letter; the editor may consult the reviewers again.
6. Acceptance and production: copyediting, typesetting and proofs, which you check and approve.
7. Publication. The article is published in the current issue, free to read, under CC BY 4.0. Articles may appear under Early publication before their issue is complete.

Timing

Review times depend on reviewers' availability and are not guaranteed. The journals make no promise of rapid acceptance, and no payment or favour speeds a manuscript up. Reviewers are asked to reply to an invitation within one week and to report within three weeks, and they receive automatic reminders.
